Students from Hartshill School in Nuneaton are celebrating as GCSE grades are revealed today. Around 204 students received grades for over 19 different qualifications including maths and English.
Principal Michelle Oliphant said, “In spite of this year of disruption and uncertainty, our students have continued to remain dedicated to their studies and have worked hard throughout the lockdown period with the support of our dedicated staff. Their success today reflects their progress throughout their entire school journey, and we are delighted to share their success and wish them well as they take their next steps into further education and on to future careers.”
Student Chloe Horne’s results included grade 5s for maths and English and is moving on to North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College to study health and social care. In future she would like to work as a midwife or paediatric nurse.
Other high performing students this year included Lili Oravecz who achieved three grade 9s for English language, English literature and PE, grade 8s for biology and history plus three additional grade 7s, and a grade 6 for maths. Lili, who is moving on to study A Levels at St Thomas More Catholic School and Sixth Form College, said, “I am very happy with my results and was grateful to receive the support and help from staff at Hartshill School.”
Cody Gibbs achieved eight grade 9s for geography, biology, chemistry, English literature, history, maths and PE plus two further grade 8s and one grade 7. He will move on to attend King Edward VI College and hopes to study to become a doctor in the future. Cody said, “I am so happy with my results. I don’t believe my experience would have been the same if I had been anywhere else. I really have enjoyed my time at Hartshill School. I will really miss my teachers and the learning environment. I would like to thank all of my teachers; I could not single anyone out as I know they all did their best for me during my time at Hartshill school.
Samuel Ashford was awarded five grade 9s in geography, biology, physics, maths and further maths, plus two grade 8s and two grade 7s. Sam will be moving on to Higham Lane School after which he plans to attend university and become an engineer. He said, “I will always remember how my friends and my teachers have helped me along the way at Hartshill School. I am so glad that my results reflect what I was expecting to achieve. I will miss my teachers and I am very excited to start at Higham Lane in the Sixth Form.”
Jake Lacrouts was awarded three grade 9s in computer science, maths and further maths plus five grade 8s, and is moving on to St Thomas More Catholic School and Sixth Form College. He said, “I am really happy with my results.I have enjoyed my time at Hartshill School. The teachers have been lovely and have really helped me to progress. I want to say a special thank you to my maths and science teachers over the years that have all really supported me. I will miss the nice working and learning environment at Hartshill School.”
Lily Bartlett was awarded one grade 9, three grade 8s and three grade 7s. She is moving on to St Thomas More Catholic School and Sixth Form College and said, “I am very happy and excited to start at college and pleased that I have got the grades. I am especially delighted with my maths result!”
Simon Lomax, Executive Principal for the Midland Academies Trust said, “This year has been exceptionally difficult for our students and I am proud of the way that they have continued with their studies thanks to the ongoing and professional support of their teachers. The cancellation of GCSE exams was unprecedented and highly disappointing, but we are confident that the grades predicted by our teaching staff accurately reflect the achievement of our students and reward them for their progress throughout the year. Pupils at GCSE level have been awarded the higher of their teacher prediction or the exam boards’ calculated grade (the calculations that they have made are based on a blend of school predictions, historical results, and national data.)
“Achieving well at GCSE, especially in the core subjects of maths and English, is so important to students’ future progress. Our teachers have set high expectations of all our students which was maintained throughout the lockdown period, and they have consistently been supported to maintain their learning and continue to progress.
