Why come to George Eliot Academy?
Ofsted observed that George Eliot Academy ‘welcomes everybody and seeks to do the best for them. It places kindness alongside ambition in the values it promotes. Pupils refer to these values and, for example, hold doors open for each other. They feel safe.’
We are a school that understands that pupils’ true success is a combination of exceptional academic success working alongside a set of personal exacting standards of behaviour. Therefore, we explicitly teach the STAR values of self-discipline, tenacity, ambition, and responsibility, which underpin everything we do and everything we are at George Eliot.
When you join George Eliot Academy, you are joining a family that cares about you and your future successes and we will support you to become the best possible version of yourself.
Meet our transition team- (who and what they do)
Mr C Bonny-Meekings- Assistant Principal and Year 7 senior leader link. Mr Bonny-Meekings supports the whole year group throughout their time in year 7.
Mrs C Bagshaw- Pastoral Lead and support for year 7. Mrs Bagshaw will spend lots of time with year 7, getting to know them and their families and supporting their pastoral needs.
Mr J Adams- Year 7 Pastoral support
Pastoral support at George Eliot Academy
Each pupil will belong to a form group, and they will see their form tutor twice a day. The form tutor is the first line of contact between the school and home.
We have a non-teaching pastoral leader in year 7 who is dedicated to supporting the needs of the year group and being available during the day to ensure everyone is able to learn to the best of their ability in each lesson.
We also have a Raising Standards Leader who supports the year group to achieve their best in their learning and progress.
SEND support at George Eliot Academy
Our SENDco and team of progress coaches are ready to support the needs of all pupils who require something additional. We pride ourselves on knowing our pupils and families and being able to ensure support is bespoke and delivered in the most successful way.
We ensure all pupils have full access to the widest curriculum possible, whilst being supported by specialists at all times.
Year 5 Transition opportunities
Year 5 pupils have access to Food Technology, Design Technology, PE, Science and Drama lessons at GEA, often visiting us for a full or half a day to experience life in a secondary school. Whilst visiting us, year 5 pupils join us for Family Lunch (family lunch information) where they can see our routines and gratitude in action.
Year 6 Transition opportunities
As well as having access to the same sessions as year 5, year 6 also receives numerous visits to their primary school to begin preparing them for their transition to secondary school. Pupils that choose to come to GEA will enjoy three full days of induction in early July where they meet their form tutors and spend time making friends and getting to know the school before they break up for summer.
Extra-Curricular Opportunities
At GEA we pride ourselves on a thriving extra-curricular programme which is very well attended by pupils. If you are sports mad, then we have many different clubs and leagues to join from trampolining to football, or maybe you would prefer the exciting experiments that are saved for our year 7 Science club. Our Maths department are always entering competitions and challenges and Art club, chess club and even homework clubs are very popular (maybe the free breakfast helps).
